"On June 9th, 1940, a squadron of 9 L. advanced on the N.W. of the *** to prevent the enemy crossing the rivers. At PONT ET MARIS the squadron met with very considerable enemy opposition and the two leading tanks were both disabled by anti-tank guns and the crews of both tanks were all wounded. The tanks were in a narrow defile between the river and high ground to the north of the river. The high ground was occupied by the Germans and the tanks were under enemy fire. Captain Scott on his own initiative went forward on foot. Under heavy machine gun fire Captain Scott organized a party who removed seven wounded men from those tanks, placed them on scout cars and had them driven back to safety. He himself carried back Lt. *** who was wounded. Throughout this action Captain Scott displayed gallantry and coolness, was responsible for the successful rescue under fire of two officers and five N.C.O.'s, and was a splendid example to the remainder of the squadron."
