Recommendation:
On 6 June 1944 Major Ralph H. Daughney commanded C Coy North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment. This Coy landed as a Reserve Coy and had as its objective the penetration task of seizing the Costal Artillery HQ strong point at Tailleville.
The garrison of this place had developed the defence system well, with the result that when first attacked the defence proved very elastic.
Major Major Ralph H. Daughney immediately reorganized his coy after the assault and after hard fighting eventually completely disposed of all resistance with the assistance of two types of tanks of the 10th Canadian Armoured Regiment.
Throughout this action the unflinching decisiveness and personal disregard of danger inspired his junior officers and men into performing an excellent job on this their first action under fire. This permitted the battalion to advance inland quickly and eliminate a number of observation points and various weapons which were firing on the beach area.
