Recommendation:
During the assault on the beaches in front of Courseulles-sur-Mer on the morning of 6 June 1944, this Medical Officer landed while the beaches were subjected to intensive fire and at great personal risk to himself gave first aid to the wounded on the beach. He personally assisted with and directed the collection of casualties to cover from enemy fire under the sea wall and out of reach of the advancing tide thereby saving many lives.
Throughout the day and night of D-Day, he continued to attend the wounded in the beach head area in the presence of enemy snipers and bombing attacks without regard to his personal safety and on his own initiative, he made his way into Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer while it was still occupied by the enemy and gave first aid to some seventy-five casualties in the area - all of whom were collected on the following day.
