Awarded on:
August 31st, 1944
Recommendation:
On the morning of 6 June 1944, Lieutenant Heaslip was in command of a section of 22 Canadian Field Ambulance which landed with and in support of North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment for the assault on St.Aubin-sur-Mer. Immediately on landing it was necessary to collect and render first aid to casualties. Enemy mortar and machine gun fire was heavy and continuous. Lieutenant Heaslip rallied his section and directed their efforts in collecting and nesting casualties in what little shelter was offered by the sea wall on the beach. With complete disregard for his own personal safety he made frequent sorties to the most exposed parts of the beach to render aid and to bring the casualties into shelter. Throughout the entire assault until the North Shore Regiment reached their final objective, this officer by his gallantry, initiative and leadership was an inspiration to his men.
