"For meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight during the period 1 July 1944 to 30 September 1944 in the European Theater of Operations. These individuals engaged in intensive aerial activity as combat crew members of Troop Carrier planes in the resupply of Allied armies advancing across France, Belgium and Holland and in the air evacuation of casualties. In addition they participated brilliantly in the greatest ariborne operation in ailitery history, the vertical envelopment of the German armies impeding the progress of our ground forces in Holland, by precisely delivering massive airborne assault forces and vast forces and vast amounts of critical combat equipment and supplies to designated objectives. These operations were conducted over an extended period of time in the face of intense hostile ground fire and in weather which required the utmost professional skill and unswerving devotion to duty for successful accomplishment. Their achievements are worthy of special recogniation in the annals of the United States Army Air Force."
