Canadian Infantry Corps

November 10th, 1945
Citation:
"During the attacks on the Goch-Calcar Road, the Hochwald Forest defence line and Xanten the outstanding leadership and personal courage of Major Froggett, commanding "D" company of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, contributed in no small measure to the successes attained by the regiment.
His exploits have become legend. On the morning of 20 February 1945 near Calcar, following a successful attack by the battalion, a strong enemy counter-attack partially dislodged the left forward company. Major Froggett was ordered to retake the position. He successfully planned and personally led the assault across 500 yards of open country in the face of extremely heavy enemy shelling and machine-gun fire.
This critical situation was restored and the regiment was enabled to continue to hold this important position. On the morning of 26 February 1945 "D" company was subjected to a very heavy counter-attack by tanks and infantry. Inspired by the cool courage of their company commander and by his skillful use of supporting arms, the men stood firm and each attack was repelled. This ground was of the utmost importance as the start line for a large scale attack a few hours later, and the loss of this would have prejudiced the success of the whole operation.
Major Froggett's bravery and sound tactical judgement coupled with his dynamic personality inspired every man under his command and had a direct influence on the outcome of every action. "D" company attack on 20 February 1945 and their successful stand on 26 February 1945 contributed in a major degree to the success of the brigade operation thus permitting the furtherance of the divisional plan.
This action is typical of the conduct of Major Froggett throughout the entire campaign in western Europe. His aggressive determination, calm courage and gallantry in battle have been an outstanding example and inspiration to all ranks of his battalion, and he has contributed in no small measure to the many successes of The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry."
