Biography

Peter Rowley was educated at Middlesex County School and then worked for the Middlesex County Council until the outbreak of the Second World War. He served in the ranks with the Queen's Westminsters (TA) before attending OTC, following which he was commissioned into the Sherwood Foresters in 1940.
Rowley saw action in North Africa, the Middle East, Italy and north-west Europe. In 1944, he was in Germany as brigade major of the 13th Brigade before moving to 8th Corps as GSO2. He retired from the Army in 1946 and went to University College, Oxford, to read Law
After qualifying, Rowley joined a sollicitor's firm. He retired in 1984

On May 28 1944, three days after VI Corps began their break-out from Anzio Beach-Head, Major Rowley's led his company in the advance up the Wadi Ficossia towards Aprilia.
