Biography

Klaas Fluit was born January 11, 1914, as son to Hilbert and Annie Fluit in DeWijk, The Netherlands. He left school after completing Grade 6 to help with the family farm in Drenthe.
He married Geertje Steenbergen, also of DeWijk on May 3, 1941. He seldom spoke about his work during the big war. His children were not told any details of his activities and thus they remain unknown. He always said that things were very bad in those years and hoped that his children would never see such a thing in their lifetime.

Before leaving The Netherlands in 1951 for Canada, Klaas and Geertje had 3 sons and a deceased daughter. In Canada he settled in Ontario and had 2 more sons and a daughter.
For the first decade he was a farm labourer and later bought his own farm in Ayr Ontario where he resided for 30 years.

He passed away on January 9th, 2008 just 2 days short of his 94th birthday, while living in a retirement home in Brampton, Ontario.
