Biography

Warrant Officer, Navigator, Royal Australian Air Force RAF 7 Squadron. Son of William Outrid Cromwell Waterman and Olive Maitland Waterman.

Killed on 16 December 1943 during a mission to Berlin. After taking off from RAF Oakington, his Lancaster JA853 MG-L was attacked by a night fighter over Friesland and crashed near Follega, Friesland.

All seven crew members were killed. Two of them remained missing. William Waterman is buried at the General Cemetery in Lemmer. His gravestone bears the inscription: "THEIRS NOT TO REASON WHY. THEIRS BUT TO DO AND DIE."
