Biography

Flight Sergeant, Flight Engineer Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 7 Squadron.
Son of Francis Reginald, railway official, and Amy Hedges. Sister Evelyn Amy Hedges. Husband of Patience “Pat” Catherine Isabella (Parkinson) Hedges, from Westminster, London. Born in 1909. Married in 1939 in Westminster, London. Father of Isobel and Terry.

Killed on 16 December 1943 during a mission to Berlin. After taking off from RAF Oakington, his Lancaster JA853 MG-L was attacked by a night fighter over Friesland and crashed near Follega, Friesland.

All seven crew members were killed. Two of them remained missing. Raymond Hedges is buried at the General Cemetery in Lemmer. His gravestone bears the inscription: 'IN PROUD MEMORY. HUSBAND OF PATIENCE, DADDY OF ISOBEL & TERRY. ‘NOT GOOD-BYE, RAY’ PAT
