Biography

Sergeant (Flight Engineer) Stanley Cowgill, son of Ernest and Jane Ann Cowgill, of Horsforth, Yorkshire, Hij was killed at 0.115am on Saturday 26 June 1943 while on a mission to Gelsenkirchen in Germany at the age of 22. Following an attack by a night fighter, their Lancaster R5572-ZN-M crashed near the village of Baak. He and the rest of the crew were buried in Steenderen General Cemetery. One crew member managed to leave the aircraft and was taken prisoner of war.
