    Biography

    For his postwar service in India he received the General Service Medal with "MOHMAND" clasp.

    Leonard Jowitt went on a patrol on July 12th, 1940 in his Hawker Hurricane Mk. I, P2557 from Martlesham Heath. At about 08.50 hrs he crashed in the Northsea naer Felixtown, after being involved in an attack on a Heinkel He 111 from II. / Kampfgeschwader 53. His remains were not recovered and he is being remembered at the Runnymede Memorial.
