Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself in action against the enemy by his courageous and tactful performance, thereby serving the interests of the Kingdom on the night of May 10th, 1940. As a member of the 7de Compagnie Pioniers, (Engineers) he volunteered immediately together with two other soldiers, to travel by car from Epe to Apeldoorn and blow up the railwaybridge on the Apeldoorn – Dierense Kanaal after his commanding officer in Epe had been notified that the bridge had not yet been blown.
On arrival he took charge under the most trying and dangerous circumstances, using the explosives they had taken along, making the bridge unusable under continuous threat from advancing enemy troops.
