Lived in 's-Hertogenbosch, Hinthamereinde 13. Son (eldest of ten children) of importer of Spanish dried fruits Henricus Martinus Eduard - Hendrik - van Hoeckel (9 May 1889 Breda - 21 April 1965 's-Hertogenbosch) and Johanna Pieternella - Janske - Schoenmakers (23 November 1889 Breda). The War Graves Foundation mentions his Catholic baptismal name Cornelis Joannes Henricus van Hoeckel. Unmarried. Began his medical studies in 1935 in Utrecht and graduated as a general practitioner in 1942. Established a general practice in the Enckevoirtstraat and later at the Hinthamereinde. Roman Catholic. Member of the resistance under the pseudonym Cor. Van Hoeckel was district leader of the LO-Den Bosch. He was also a member of the KP-Den Bosch and was involved with illegal newspapers, in particular Trouw. Illegal newspapers were distributed from his home. The delivery of the newspapers was combined with the distribution of food coupons for people in hiding. Van Hoeckel also provided shelter to people in hiding. Members of resistance groups hid in his home, which also served as a meeting place for the resistance. He also provided assistance to stranded allied pilots. A friend said of him: 'Cor van Hoeckel really got into illegal work. Cor was a great guy, a somewhat reckless and energetic man, who often took big risks and who was afraid of nothing and no one.' His home was raided three times, without any suspicious items being found. The attention the occupier showed him was reason for him to go into hiding. Het Grote Gebod writes that he was arrested on 3 June 1944 in connection with the preparations for a robbery. However, that was not the real reason for his arrest. When he travelled from Utrecht to 's-Hertogenbosch on the evening of 9 June 1944, he showed his real identity card instead of his forged one during a check at the station in his hometown. He ended up in the Haaren Police and Investigation Fence. He was later transferred to Camp Vught. More than two months after his arrest, he was shot dead by a firing squad at the shooting range near the camp. It was not until the summer of 1945 that his family obtained certainty about his fate. His name is on the memorial at the execution site and the memorial wall in the contemplation room of the National Monument Camp Vught. In 's-Hertogenbosch, the Dokter Van Hoeckelstraat is named after him.
Van Hoeckel was cremated in the Vught concentration camp. On August 23, 1945, a memorial service was held for him in the St. Leonardus Church in 's-Hertogenbosch.
