    Biography

Lived in Hattem, Kerkstraat. Son (ninth of eleven children) of farm labourer/day labourer Albertus Rorije (10 July 1873 buurtschap Hoorn, municipality of Heerde - 9 November 1925 Wapenveld, municipality of Heerde) and Heintje van Peters (28 September 1874 Epe - 29 December 1940 Wapenveld). Married on Monday 18 November 1935 to Maria de Ruiter (3 November 1916 Hattem - 9 May 1996). His widow remarried Christiaan Kamphuis (26 November 1905 - 5 October 1968). Factory worker paper factory. At the time, he had to work for the Organisation Todt Until mid-November 1944, the Rorije family lived close to the IJsselburg, but because of the shelling, the family went to Heerde. Later, the Rorijes moved into the vacant premises of a Jewish butcher in Kerkstraat. On 2 April 1945, Easter Monday, Rorije paid a visit away. With his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter by the hand and his nine-year-old son walking along across the street, he returned a little after eight o'clock. Curfew, when people were no longer allowed on the streets, had just started. His wife, who was standing in the opening of the door, urged him to hurry, because from the Market, municipal field guard Reeder and land guard De Haan were approaching. At the level of greengrocer Agterhuis (the later property Kerkstraat 16), the land guard fired several shots at Rorije, who fell down. His children fled into the greengrocer's shop. Municipal doctor Mesdag was quickly at the scene, but could not prevent the victim from dying soon after. The death certificate records the time of death as 9.30pm. Landwachter De Haan was tried in Zwolle after the war. Buried in the General Cemetery on the Kerkhofdijk in Hattem.

A Stolperstein was placed in front of Marinus Rorije's former home on Kerkstraat in Hattem on 18 April 2025.
