Biography

Albertus Cornelis Kerkhoff lived in Zeist at Siberiƫlaan 70 (now Julianalaan). He was born on October 30th, 1907, the son of tailor Cornelis Jan Kerkhoff (December 9th, 1883, in The Hague) and Johanna Bijland (April 27th, 1883, in Boskoop). He was married to Antoinette Maria Helena Durivou and worked as a radio operator for Radio Holland and KLM. Albert Cornelis was a member of the Council of Resistance. He declared himself unfit for work when he was required to report for employment. He began transmitting for the RVV (Dutch Radio and Television Association) in several locations. On June 13, 1944, he was arrested at one of them, Bovenweg 1 in Doorn. His wife, who had transported the transmitter in a dog basket on a bicycle, and the two residents were also arrested. After her release, his wife returned home to find the house a complete mess, but the two hundred Sten guns, stored under the floorboards of the upstairs hallway, were still there. Kerkhoff, who had been employed by KLM since December 6th, 1935, arrived in Vught via Driebergen and Haaren.
He was cremated in the Vught concentration camp.
