    Biography

    Jacob Groen lived at 52-I Reinier Claeszenstraat in Amsterdam and was the son of stone grinder/treasurer Meijer Groen (December 7, 1843 Amsteram - † ?) and Marianna Sjouwerman (March 3, 1945 Amsterdam - † November 1, 1919 Amsterdam). He was a baker of Dutch-Israelic faith. He was married in Düsseldorf, Germany to the non-Jewish Marie Lermusiaux (Assevent, France January 5, 1898 - † ?).
    He was registered in the PDA as prisoner 1828. He was shot outside the camp on December 11, 1942 'while trying to escape'. The same day, his fellow inmates, diamond grinder Isaac Soesan (December 26, 1890 Amsterdam) and traveler Julius Spetter (August 7, 1885 Rotterdam) were also shot outside the camp 'trying to escape'. Two of Jacob's sisters, Femmetje Koker-Groen (59) and Sientje Druk-Groen (56) were both gassed in extermination camp Sobibor.
    Jacob Groen was buried at the Dutch-Israeli cemetery in Amersfoort. The exact location of his grave is unknown.
