Lived in Dalmur. Son of Alexander Skinner and Margaret Ogilvie Erskine Thomson. Unmarried. Lieutenant of 261st (Airborne) Field Park Company. Army number 258862. He was murdered by the Germans at Dreyenseweg without trial and for unknown reasons. Skinner studied English at the University of Glasgow. However, he preferred a job with the LMS Railway Company as a railway official at St. Enoch station in Glasgow to a career in academia. On 19 June 1941, he enlisted as a private in the Royal Engineers. His promotion to Private First Class came on 3 March 1942. He gradually rose to the rank of officer. On 18 September 1944, Skinner landed in a Horsa Glider (Chalk No. 968) of D Squadron at the Royal Air Force base at Keevil during Operation Market Garden near Arnhem. With five men, a jeep, and a trailer, he safely landed. Two days later, he was captured near Wolfheze and murdered along with several other prisoners of war on September 21, 1944.
