Henrik Jan Willem Oudewaal lived in Rijswijk (South Holland) at Jozef Israƫlslaan 14. He was born in Stompwijk on July 20th, 1910, to Marinus Leo Stephanus Oudewaal (frame maker/mirror manufacturer/railway official, December 26th, 1878, Wassenaar - July 21st, 1962, Breda) and Henrieka Joanna Kamphorst (December 20th, 1882, Renswoude - March 9th, 1959, Breda) and was married to Cornelia Jansen. He worked as an electrical engineer and, during World War II, was a member of the resistance under the alias Henk, belonging to the LO-Rijswijk/Den Haag (a resistance group led by Jacob Goedendorp). He was involved in distributing the Chronicle of the Week and helping people in hiding. In 1943, the group to which Oudewaal belonged planned to raid the Rijswijk municipal population registry using a copied key. After the plan was leaked, the raid was aborted. According to the National Monument Camp Vught, the resistance group was likely betrayed. Oudewaal was arrested on May 30th, 1944, at a German-occupied address in The Hague. He was transferred via the Scheveningen prison (Oranjehotel) to the Camp Vught bunker. On September 4th, 1944, he was shot dead by a firing squad at the camp's shooting range, along with the Rijswijk brothers Jacob and Bernardus Goedendorp (born October 21st, 1900, and April 27th, 1904, respectively). Oudewaal was cremated at the Vught concentration camp.
