Trestorff took part in the failed second robbery of the detention center at Weteringschans in Amsterdam on July 15, 1944. During the betrayed robbery, which was led by Johannes Post, the Amsterdam resident was seriously injured by five enemy bullets. He succumbed to his serious injuries in prison a few hours after the robbery. The remains were transferred to the Wilhelmina Gasthuis. In Amsterdam the Guus Trestorffstraat is named after him.

On July 18, 1944, the remains were cremated in the Westerveld crematorium in Driehuis (municipality of Velsen). According to a list of cremated resistance fighters kept during the war, the urn with ashes was placed in the General Nis under number 16028.
