Lived in Alkmaar, Nieuwesloot 87. Son of Arie Ris (10 January 1894 Akersloot) and Huiberdina van der Rest (15 November 1894 Dubbeldam). Unmarried. 1st class radio telegraphist PTT-Amsterdam. No church. Member of the resistance belonging to the OD and the group KP-4710.
In September 1944 he joined the Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten Gewest 11 Noord-Holland Noord and of Alkmaar, where he became group commander of the 4th section. He participated in arms transports, raids and the observation of German troop movements. He was also involved in producing the illegal magazine Robu. He was arrested in the night of 18 to 19 February 1945. Ris ended up in the detention centre on Weteringschans in Amsterdam via the detention centre in Alkmaar. He was shot at Rozenoord on Amsteldijk in retaliation for the attack on SS-Befehlshaber Hanns Albin Rauter on 6 March 1945. His gravestone bears the inscription: ‘Once he said: I would give my life for freedom’.
His personal file in the Amsterdam City Archives lists his last address as 132 Overbakerweg in Amsterdam in November 1943.
