Johan Willem baron Quarles de Quarles lived in the Dutch East Indies. Son of chief administrator Soerabajessche Handelsblad Willem Alexander Frederik Carel Quarles de Quarles (22 January 1863 - 18 August 1921 Soerabaja (N.I.) and Jeannes Fontein (13 May 1866 in Batavia (N.I.) - 2 February 1945 in Tangerang (N.I.). Stafemployé Nederlandsch Indische Handelsmaatschappij /Secretary NV Borneo Oil Company/Bookkeeper Captured by the Japanese Kempeitai (military police) on 4 May 1943 and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment Died of endured hardships in Soekamiskin prison near Bandoeng (West Java) on 26 April 1945. Unmarried.
