Biography

Lived in Harreveld. Son of Johannes Blaauwgeers and Berendina Soppe. Married to Henrica Everdina Dute (two children). Sergeant in the military police of the Dinxperlo Brigade. Roman Catholic.

Member of the resistance under the alias Gert and belonging to the KP-Aalten. He was also the contact person for the KP in his area. Blaauwgeers was also active as a military police officer in Groenlo, Arnhem, Amsterdam and near Koewacht in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. At the end of 1942, he was stationed in Harreveld. There, as a member of the LO, he provided food stamps for people in hiding, forged identity cards, warned of impending raids, helped stranded Allied pilots and participated in raids on distribution offices.
As a result of betrayal by SD employee Willy Marcus, he was arrested in Lichtenvoorde on 20 April 1944. The very next day, he was transferred to the Vught concentration camp. After being sentenced to death, he was executed in the dunes near Overveen.

Six months after his death, his second child, a daughter, was born. A street in Harreveld is named after him. (Source: Heere and Vernooij, De Eerebegraafplaats Bloemendaal [The Bloemendaal Cemetery of Honour]).
