"For conspicuous bravery + courage when leading his platoon at Salum on 11+12 Jan. 42. The early success of B Company - the only Company to gain its oblective on the first attack was largely due to the admirable way in which Lt Blackburne maintained the momentum of the attack. In the afternoon attack when reinforcing 'A' Company, Lt Blackburne again set a high example when an enemy strongpoint was holding up the attack he advanced determinately across the intervening open ground in order to close on the position tenable his men to deal with it."
