Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Awarded on:
March 31st, 1952
Recommendation:
He has distinguished himself in connection with enemy action by courageous and tactful conduct and in so doing has served the interests of the Kingdom during the last years of occupation, by actively taking part in many succesful acts of sabotage against traffic on land and on water in the region of Noord Holland for which orders were given by higher authorities, either by the general HQ of the Binnenlandse Stijdkrachten (Interior Resistance) in Amsterdam or by the Regional Sabotage Command at Alkmaar or Zaandam; this often happened in a sense that as much initiative and tact as expedient was left to the perpetrators. By these acts of sabotage, German traffic was disrupted in such a way that it had a negative influence on the conduct of the war against the Allies.
