Biography

The Austrian Gefreiter Johann Fleischhacker belonged to the 6. Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 144 (-311-Stammkp.I.E.Btl.I/486). He died at the young age of 18, south of the city Stalino, the city now called Donetzt. The data of the German Volksbund shows that he was killed by a head injury he sustained during heavy artillery when the German army withdrew from the area. Most likely his comrades were not able to dig a grave for him due to the heavy fights in that period and he probably ended up in a unrecognizable field- or mass grave. His grave location is, unfortunately, to this day unknown, he is commemorated on the war memorial in Pamhagen and the commemorative book (see photo) on the German war cemetery in Donetsk, Ukraine.
