Biography

From professional writer / journalist, born 1 June 1904 in Amsterdam, the son of Jacob Vaz Diaz and Hannah Hamburger, both residing in London. He was married to Anna Terez Munka. They lived in The Hague. The death certificate made in Leusden on 16-11-1945, gives the date of passing as 20 July 1943. On the grave is the date 29-7-1943.
As a member of the resistance he ended up in Camp Amersfoort where he was executed on 29 July 1943 on the Leusderheide. He was 37 years old.

Data from Jewish monument: Salomon Vaz Dias was a journalist. In the war days of May 1940 he worked as a civilian at the General Staff. After the capitulation, he was employed by the Red Cross to search for missing soldiers. He was a member of the Dutch Order Department (OD) and member of Het Parool. In the fall of 1940 he led discussions on the possibilities to establish a link with London. He was given access to a channel. A German spy lured Salomon Vaz Dias to France, where he was arrested on 30 June 1942 at the Dijon train station. Through the prison in Scheveningen, the Seminary in Haaren and prison in Utrecht, he ended up in the camp in Amersfoort.
