"On 10 September 1944 when 9 Infantry Battalion were attacking YPRES Col. MARESCH lost wireless contact with his representatives *** *** with the foremost troops. To ensure that his orders reached them he went in his jeep to the centre of the town regardless of many snipers and the fighting which was still in progress around him. On 26 April 1945 the enemy launched a counter-attack against the bridgehead over the river LEDA/LR923103Q/ which was held by 10 Motorised Battalion. Col. MARESCH went at once to his *** and personally controlled the fire of his Regiment, under heavy enemy mortar fire, until the attack was repulsed. His personal intervention greatly contributed to the successful result of the fighting. He also disinterested himself on 7 and 8 September 1944 during the attack on ROULERS and ** January 1945 at KAPELSCHE VEER. On every occasion Col. MARESCH has shown complete disregard of personal danger, and by his skill and initiative in handling his Regiment has always given the best possible support to the infantry and armour."
