"On 20 Aug 44 during action of closing the FALAISE gap he was posted as FOO in the area of hill 262/FRANCE MR 438 557/, and his ranging was remarkably good and effective. He showed great courage and self sacrifice regardless of his own safety. Although his CP tank was hit twice and one of the tank crew /W.OP/ had been killed he himself gave orders to fire, destroying an enemy tank position."
