Biography

Son of Herbert and Annie Wilson, husband of Ruby Marjorie Wilson. Flying Officer, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 57 Squadron RAF. Killed at the age of 30 in a crash involving the Avro Lancaster Mk I ED329 DX- on 13 May 1943 near the village of Maasniel (Roermond). The aircraft had taken off from RAF Scampton the previous evening and was part of a major attack with a total of 572 bombers on the city of Duisburg.

On the way back, the aircraft was attacked by a German Messerschmidt Bf110 night fighter of pilot Major Walter Ehle of Stab II.NJG 1, coming from the military airfield of St. Truiden (Belgium), The aircraft caught fire and crashed with the debris being scattered over much of the surrounding area, Six crew members died. They were buried after the war at the Commonwealth War Cemetery, Jonkerbos. One crew member survived the crash with serious injuries and was made a prisoner of war.

The inscription on his gravestone reads
'HEREAFTER IN THAT WORLD WHERE ALL ARE PURE WE TWO MAY MEET'.
