"History.
i. His history has already been recorded up to August 1942, when he was recommended for the decoration which was awarded to him in October (B.E.M.).
ii. At the end of December 1942 he was landed on Cap Bon Peninsula with his friend, Walter BORG. Under extreme difficulties he managed to instal himself in TUNIS. At the same time he had to arrange for the concealment of two British officers who had been stranded.
iii. He immediately carried out his first task - to re-organise communications. The whole set-up in TUNIS was in danger of breaking down due to lack of a W/T technician and misundersandings between groups.
iv. He carried out his task with the utmost success and ensured the traffic of all groups. The repairs to all sets, selection of crystals and W/T plans had to be of necessity left in his hands. This responsability is unusual, and only his reliability, ability and knowledge of our methods made us confident that he would produce results.
v. After two months he had, in addition, created an organisation which in the last six weeks of the Tunesian campaign produced as many reports as any other group and operated until the very last.
vi. The work of GOMAND is particulary excellent when it is considered that he was known in TUNIS, had been sentenced for 25 years imprisonment, and that most of the groups whom he helped continuously had been arrested. His courage, morale and astuteness under the most dangerous conditions were exemplary.
Recommendation.
vii. D.C.M. or D.S.O. according to status.
viii.GOMAND is attached to A.F.H.Q. for special duties.
