"Sgt Halford was a member of a party of P.O.W. who effected an escape from a prison train in JUGOSLAVIA. For over a year he wandered about In JUGOSLAVIA until making contact with the Allied Mission on 9 June 43.
He has made a Household name for himself in all parts in which he has visited, and I have seen from the pleasure with which he has been greeted on returning what a good name he has made for himself and the British Forces.
He has since 1943 been employed ith my Mission and has done invaluable work as an interpreter.
There is no doubt that Sgt HALFORD has made a personal contriution of value to the maintenance of good relationship between our respective forces.
I recommend that he be awarded the B.E.M."
British Empire Medal (BEM & EGM)
