"Letter address to: Mrs. Mary Drennan,
R.F.D. Marion, Ky

Mrs. Drennan,
Please accept my sincere and heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your son. His many good friends joined me today at General Muster of the station personnel in tribute to those who were lost in line of duty while performing an important mission in Alaskan waters. His selection as a crew member of the airplane performing that mission was a tribute to his abilities. You may take satisfaction in knowing he was serving his country in an outstanding manner. While the nature of his work must remain confidental for some time to come, it may be said now that it will contribute materially to the success of the war effort in the theatre of operations in which his airplane was lost. If I can be of service to you or there is anything that can be arranged for you, I will be only too happy to do so.
Sincerely,
W.B. Scheibel,
Lieutenant Commander, Commanding Officer."
