Biography

Arthur was born on April 4 1920 in Windsor Ontario, the son of Herbert John Horrell (English) and Anna Horrell nee Bellemore (deceased age 29) of Windsor. They were married in February 1916 in Windsor. His stepmother was Beatrice Horrell of Windsor. He was married on August 21 1943 in Windsor with Shirley Edith Horrell nee Austin of Windsor. His sister was Mrs. Grace Grendeau.

He was a tool repairer with the Ford Motor CO. and member of the Church of England and his sports were basketball and football.

He enlisted on November 17 1941 in Windsor and he went thereafter on January 31 1944 overseas to the UK.

Arthur was killed in action on Wednesday October 11 1944 age 24 due to a crash near the Deurneseweg in Ysselsteyn before or after an attack on Antwerp in Belgium. He was temporarily buried then in Deurne before being reburied on June 21 1946 in Venray. His other fallen RCAF crew member was F/O Louis P.E. Piche age 33 in grave 1-E-13.

A monument was unveiled on May 4 2012 in Ysselsteyn with all the fallen allied soldiers on it of WW2.
