One night in October, 1941, this airman was the navigator of an aircraft which was detailed to attack Bremen. Weather conditions were extremely unfavourable making it impossible to accomplish the original mission but Sergeant Mason skilfully directed his pilot to an alternative target. In spite of intense anti-aircraft opposition, bombs were dropped over the target area and very large fires were seen by the crews of other aircraft. Sergeant Mason has completed 50 sorties, including both day and night attacks against important enemy targets. He is an exceptionally good observer, whose courage and determination have set an excellent example."
