On the morning of the 11.07.1941, Oberst Sieler and his Regiment defended against the last desperate Soviet attempt to capture the fiercely contested crossroads at Opotschka in a strike from the north. Immediately after smashing the hostile attack, Oberst Sieler likewise struck out against the Soviets with his Regiment on his own initiative. He was able to reach and secure the railway line east of Opotschka on a broad front, and in doing so was able to permanently eradicate the Soviet threat to the town from the east.
