Biography

Elder son of Professor Herman Frijda (d. Auschwitz Nov. 1944). Leading member of militant Dutch resistance group CS6. Participated in the assassination of Dutch collaborator General Seyffardt. Wrote for, and jointly edited, a clandestine literary magazine ‘Lichting’. Arrested August 1943 and executed along with eighteen others of his group on 1 October 1943. Buried with honour after the war in the Bloemendaal war cemetery in Overveen, the Netherlands. His grave stone bears the first lines of his poem, ‘Goya 1941’:
‘Do not speak,
Just as they did not speak’.
