Biography

In 1937, he was commissioned into the Sherwood Foresters and posted to the 2nd Battalion in Guernsey. After transferring to the 1st Battalion, he served in Bermuda, Palestine and Cyprus before moving to Egypt in December 1941 and taking part in the campaign in the Western Desert.
He was catured and taken PoW, escaped but recaptured and taken to Camp 21 at Chieti.
Yet he managed to escape by tunneling for which he was awarded a bar to his MC.
He then was attached to No. 2 Commando for a spell before re-joining 2nd Foresters in Italy 1944.
In 1945 he returned to Palestine and served there for four years.
Post-war posts included GSO2 at HQ Salisbury Plain District and HQ 49 Brigade Kenya.
After his retired from the Army in 1968 Sudbury worked for the British Aircraft Corporation until 1972.
