Awarded for his actions during the final battles for Germany in 1945. Oberleutnant Sardemann and his Batterie, deployed in Lensitz (west of Gotenhafen), played an invaluable role in stopping Soviet assaults in this area. In days of fighting the Batterie inflicted heavy losses on the Soviets, enabling the evacuation of a great many civilians and refugees.
