He not only demonstrated exemplary bravery and willingness to fight during this time, but also performed actions that were immensely helpful to the German cause. On multiple occasions he succeeded in preventing the encirclement of his Kompanie, or denying the Soviets the possibility of expanding their penetrations through his effective MG-fire.
