In the fall of 1944 Oberleutnant Müller and his Batterie found themselves encircled by overwhelming Soviet forces. By using feints and other tactical tricks, Müller was able to break out of the trap with his men and thus prevent the annihilation of his unit. For this act he would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross.
