Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Gefreiter (Lance Corporal)
Unit:
Richtschütze 9./Infanterie-Regiment 461
Awarded on:
May 9th, 1942
Awarded for his actions during the fighting on the eastern front in early 1942. While serving as part of a forward reconnaissance detachment, he occupied a hill position and held this against fierce Soviet attacks. With his MG he defended against the Soviets for 14 hours in temperatures of -30 all on his own, directly before the opposing lines. Using signals he also directed the fire of the German heavy weapons against the Soviets, which resulted in the destruction of 5 MG nests and a mortar. In addition, two hostile attempts to bypass the German defenses were recognized by him in time and smashed. For his contributions in crushing multiple Soviet attacks, he helped to create the preconditions for the successful attack of a German infantry regiment later on. Mosler would be recognized appropriately for this.
