Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Lieutenant
Unit:
2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards, 1st Guards Brigade, 6th Armoured Division, British Army
Awarded on:
April 19th, 1945
"This officer has on many occasions displayed considerable courage and enterprise in operations against the enemy, especially on patrol.
During the attack on MT. PACCHIANO on June 21st his P1 came under heavy fire from the front and both flanks. This P1 on his right was pinned down and could not move. With great coolness and initiative he moved his P1 round the flank and succeeded in clearing the enemy from the Coy objective which was the highest part of the hill, thus forcing the enemy to abandon hastily the whole feature.
During July and August he led several patrols notable for their careful planning and success, one penetrating far behind enemy positions and bringing back much valuable information.
During September he has twice led strong daylight patrols long distances in difficult country, which succeeded in reaching their objectives."
Military Cross (MC)
