"On 27 Oct 44. NORTH of AARDENBURG, the troop led by Lieut Crabtree was held up by heavy 20mm shell and MG fire coming from an enemy position on a dyke to their front. This fire held up the advance of the Regiment and at last light Lieut Crabtree led a patrol to the dyke under very heavy fire. He gained the objective and held it despite two counter-attacks from the enemy. The coolness, courage and initiative of Lieut Crabtree was an inspiration to all concerned and it was only due to his actions that the Regiment was able to gain it's objective with heavy losses to the enemy."
