"Whilst assigned to the tires at the docks Sub-Officer Abbs was instrumental in getting a number of pumps to work which had been temporarily out of action owing to severe bombing. Delayed action bombs near fires which he has attended have in no way discouraged this Officer. He imparts confidence to all men under his command by his coolness and daring."
