"From the end of Oct 1944 till Jan 1945, Capt. (now Major) H.B. O'Sullivan MC was in command of a small party of British Troops on the island of SALAMIS.

During this time, he took the very greatest interest in the welfare of those on the island. With firm handling and encouragement, he helped the island materially to recover from the German occupation. He was univerdally liked and respected by the Greek officials who came to regard him as Head of the Island.
He worked tirelessly to get relief and medical supplies for those on the island, when they were in very short supply, and by his initiative and perseverance succeeded to a great extent.

He re-organised, equipped and even trained the remains of the local Gendarmerie with the result there was no trouble on the island.

He displayed initiative of a very high order, and I strongly recommend that his services, very much appreciated by the Greeks at the time, be recognised."
