"Throughout the battle for the MONTE CASSINO complex from the 11 - 19 May 1944 this Warrant Officer showed great courage and devotion to duty. when his Company Comd was wounded he immediately took command of the unit and thus through personal initiative saved the unit's fighting capacity at ta critical and disheartening moment. He led the Company under the heaviest fire with skill, determination and great courage and through these qualities was an inspiration to his men."
