"Lieut LASSOTA, on 19 April 45, during the operation directed against the strongly prepared enemy defences along the R. GAIANA, showed great courage and initiative. In the attack the Commander of 2 Coy and the Commanders of two leading platoons were killed, line and wireless communications were disrupted and the attack broke down. Lieutenant LASOTTA, on his own initiative, went forward, repaired three faults in the line under enemy artillery and MG fire, established signal communication with the battalion commander and explained the situation to him, after which he took over command of one of the platoons of 2 Company and continued to attack. He was one of the first over the other side of the GAIANA, where he viewed out on an enemy nest of resistance, capturing some Prisoners of War and established a bridgehead.

By his courage and initiative he was an inspiration to his men, and made an outstanding contribution to the success of the operation."
