The following press article describes why Kosar was awarded the Knight’s Cross…

“A New Viennese Knight’s Cross Holder:

The Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Leutnant der Reserve Karl Kosar, Zugführer in a Panzer-Abteilung.

Leutnant der Reserve Karl Kosar was born on the 06.06.1920 in Vienna as the son of chief construction worker Kosar. During the fighting north of Kirovograd he and his Zug destroyed 31 enemy tanks within 3 days, and of these he personally destroyed 16. By doing so he significantly contributed to the restoration of the situation. The Panzer Zug led by Leutnant Kosar belongs to the 10. Panzer-Division [no typo], which was named in the Wehrmachtbericht of the 18.01.1944. Leutnant der Reserve Kosar is an electrical engineer by trade. He was called up for military service in 1940.”
