"Major Chełkowski was the first officer of the Polish Army in the East to be entrusted with the organisation and training of transport company's on the British model. He has supervised the training of a large number of drivers and technical personnel and it is largely through his untiring work that the general Transport Company's of 2 Polish Corps have attained their high standard of efficiency.

During the whole campaign in Italy he has commanded 22 General Transport Company most efficiently and due to his leadership and example his men have carried out every task without fail, however difficult and dangerous."
